On behalf of the entire congregation, Rev. Matt Landry welcomes you to First United Methodist, South Bend!
Pastor Matt joined First Church in July 2019. He notes, “What has remained consistent in my life has been a continual call to serve. I have been blessed with opportunities to serve locally and globally. I look forward to bringing enthusiasm and joy for ministry and service to South Bend!”
Pastor Matt served as the Pastor of Mission and Discipleship at Meridian Street United Methodist Church, a few miles north of downtown Indianapolis. In addition to preaching, teaching, and leading worship, the primary focus of his work has been facilitating local and global mission projects, planning and teaching studies, and reaching out to the neighborhoods near the church.
Prior to moving to Indianapolis, he served as pastor of Winamac First United Methodist Church in northwest Indiana. Pastor Matt is a graduate of the University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, IN, where he experienced his call to ministry through involvement in Campus Ministry and serving as a Peer Minister on campus. He received his Master of Divinity degree at Methodist Theological School in Ohio in 2010.
In 2018, the University of Saint Francis awarded Pastor Matt with the Distinguished Alumni Service award for his mission work locally and around the globe. Serving and engaging different cultures is a passion for Pastor Matt. He has been able to travel to Guatemala, the Philippines, Mexico, South Korea, Zimbabwe, and Botswana on mission and cross cultural experiences.
In August of 2019, Pastor Matt was awarded the Lacy Ecumenical Medal by Saint Paul Christian University, which is awarded to those who have dedicated themselves to the cause of Christian unity and inter-religious dialogue and who exemplify the tenants contained in the Decalogue for Ecumenical Discipleship. Along with this honor, Pastor Matt was also conferred the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters awarded to those who have distinguished themselves in a specific area, this case being religion.
He is an Associate Member of the Franciscan Community of Oldenburg, IN and a member of the Confraternity of Saint Gregory’s Abbey (Episcopalian Benedictine) in Three Rivers, MI.
Pastor Matt, his wife, Candace, and his two young sons are pleased to be in The Bend.
