Valerie Staples is a licensed clinical social worker at the University Counseling Center at the University of Notre Dame where she is the Coordinator of Eating Disorder Services. She received her BS from Manchester University and MSSW from the University of Louisville. Valerie has specialized in the treatment of eating disorders since 1987 beginning at the H.O.P.E Program at Memorial Hospital where she was the director from 1989-1999. She has also worked in private practice. Valerie is a founding member of the Eating Disorders Task Force of Indiana, a member of NASW and the Academy for Eating Disorders Professionals. She is the principle investigator for the collaborative research project between the University of Notre Dame, Washington University, Rutgers and Stanford and is a member of Committee for Sexual Assault Prevention on campus. Valerie has presented at numerous local, regional and national conferences on the topic of eating disorders.
